History of the city of Newport Richey, Florida

Rich with historical facts, Newport Richey’s history started back in the year 1900’s. The city’s downtown area has been gathered and established in the year 1911 when every innovation in the city were first documented with the help of the Port Richey Land Company that owned most of the lands in the New Port Richey.

The land owner, Port Richey Land Company have started with the strategies of marketing the whole area to be one of the most ideal area good for retirement in as early as 1911. The whole city of Newport Richey was made as a retirement community and a service center for most of the farmlands in the city.

As was aided by the expansion of the service railroad developed in the area and Dixie Highway being in the proximity area of the city, the development flourished well. They made highways and roads that were used as the major road that leads to many trading possibilities during their time. It became the known to be the center of most businesses in their Florida’s district.  Most of the developments took place in the year 1911 up to the year 1920’s. This is when the tremendous development in the whole city of Newport Richey when it comes to the real estate industry covering the entire city’s progress. The buildings that were built in the city’s downtown area were commonly made from wood and were easily destructed by fire. This tremendous experience made a great character in the city up until the present.

In the year 1924, Newport Richey was incorporated. A lot of innovations have been made after the devastating event of fire swallowing the whole city. A theater called The Meighan Theatre was built. It suddenly attracted the eyes of Hollywood making some productions filmed in the city. The theatre’s name was changed to The Cinema and The Vogues after the death of Thomas Meighan. Today the theatre is known as the Richey Suncoast Theatre and the building was renovated making it have the most majestic features of a building in the city.

After some time, the city’s most known park located in the Bank Street and Circle Boulevard called Sims Park named after George Sims. The park was first known to be Enchantment Park. Because of the land part and the clubhouse donated by George R. Sims. It got relocated in the area in the year 1922. Originally from Great Neck, New York, George Sims bought the property during the year 1925. The amphitheater at the Sims Park has held many productions and plays that made the place very popular.

Newport Richey is one of the best cities in Florida. Because of the great innovations that have happened in the city, more and more people made an opportunity to get everything out of what has been made for them. The history of Newport Richey made a way to boost what it has to offer to people coming in and out of the city. It made a lot of good impression leading to a more successful industry.
